Tree Lights Uptown Will Stay Illuminated Year-Round

Uptown Saint John will have some extra sparkle 365 days of the year.

Common Council voting unanimously to keep the white lights strung on 20 trees on King Street and Prince William Street illuminated all year-round.

The power costs of lighting up the trees for the extra 10 months would mean an increase in power costs of about $11 per tree and Saint John Energy has agreed to continue not charging for the lights. Extra equipment is needed for the trees which would cost a total of $1900 which the Parks and Recreation Division can cover in its budget for this year.

This idea was brought forward by councillor Susan Fullerton. The lights had been illuminated for about two months during the holiday season.
