John Ames getting up close and personal with the Old Town Hall in St. Stephen.
The Charlotte-Campobello MLA, along with St. Stephen Mayor John Quartermain, and South-West New Brunswick MP Karen Ludwig, recently taking an indepth tour of the historic building on Milltown Blvd.
Ames says overall, it wasn’t in as bad of shape as he thought it was going to be. “The structure on the east gable, that wall, that’s what needs to be fixed first and foremost. But, as far as the interior goes, the foundation is very sound.”
He adds there is definite wear and tear on all levels.
The building was slated for demolition, as voted on by St. Stephen Town Council, but that demolition has now been halted as an unknown party is taking interest, and furhter inspection is being done.
Estimated costs for renovating the Old Town Hall are over $2 million dollars.
