There’s more speculation about who will be running for the leadership of the provincial Conservative Party with the name of Quispamsis M-L-A Blaine Higgs now in the mix although there’s nothing official yet.
Rothesay M-L-A Ted Flemming says he has been approached to run and one thing he learned as Health Minister was local communities knew better what their needs were which is why he’s leery of centralised government with top down decisionmaking.
Fredericton West-Hanwell M-L-A Brian Macdonald is the only officially declared leadership candidate thus far. The party’s energy critic Jake Stewart from Blackville, who has declared shale gas in the province dead, has also been mentioned as pondering a leadership run.
The new leader will be chosen when the party holds its convention in October.
