Premier Brian Gallant attended a seafood expo in boston this past weekend to try to expand the reach of New Brunswick’s seafood export business.
Eight companies from across the province accompanied Gallant and Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet to North America’s largest seafood show.
Formerly known as the Boston Seafood Show, it attracts upwards of 20,000 buyers and suppliers of fresh, frozen, packaged and value added seafood products as well as equipment and services from more than 100 countries.
In 2013, the province was the second biggest exporter of seafood with more than 1 billion dollars in sales.
This is the fifth straight year seafood exports have increased for New Brunswick, and over the last five years, the increase has been 46 percent.
Doucet says government support of the seafood companies at the expo is one way they are working to add value to the provincial seafood industry.
