The sporting community in Saint John is mourning the death of Abbie Colwell from cancer at the age of 86.
Colwell was a long standing member of the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame, having coached baseball, hockey and football as well as playing hockey for the Saint John Beavers and baseball with the St. Peter’s Saints.
He also was a founder of South End Little League and minor football in the city.
No funeral service will be held. There will be a chance for you to pay your respects at Brenan’s on Manawagonish Road tomorrow from 2 in the afternoon to 7 at night as well as a celebration of his life in the spring.
Colwell’s contributions to Saint John were such that he was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal.
