The chair of the Saint John Police Commission voicing some concerns over the proposed sunshine list even though Jonathon Franklin acknowledges the city’s financial plight and need to watch closely every dime that’s spent.
One concern of his is that one department not be singled out and making public the salaries paid to individuals may have unintended consequences.
Franklin also questions whether this is just another in a series of attacks against the police department from Mayor Mel Norton and his brother, Councillor Greg Norton.
Franklin is also concerned about what he calls misinformation and disinformation kicking around, leaving the inaccurate impression that policing costs in the city are out of control. He plans to elaborate on that when the Police Commission makes a presentation to Comon Council, expected next Monday.
