Common Council voted at its most recent to work with TransCanada to build the proposed Energy East Pipeline in a way that will protect the environment.
Common Councillor Donna Reardon says industry has been “both a bane and a blessing” for Saint John – and in order to see the positive effects, we need to be ready to play ball on the same level as massive multi-billion-dollar companies.
Reardon says it’s a question of balancing the risks of the project with our simultaneously dire employment situation.
Common Councillor David Merrithew and others reiterated that health and safety concerns are of the utmost importance.
