In Maritime Junior A hockey, the St. Stephen County Aces lost to Woodstock 8-2.

In the NHL, Detroit won its fourth in a row, 5-3 over Vancouver as Pavel Datsyuk scored two goals.

Calgary won the Grey Cup 20-16 over Hamilton after a kickoff return for a touchdown by the Tiger Cats was nullified because of an illegal block.

In the NFL, Green Bay held off New England 26-21 with Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers throwing for 368 yards and two touchdowns…..Last night, Denver, with five field goals, defeated Kansas City 29-16……San Diego is back in the playoff picture with a come from behind 34-33 win over the Baltimore Ravens…..Pittsburgh rallied but fell short, losing to New Orleans 35-32….Cincinnati solidified its hold on first in the N-F-C North with a 14-13 win over Tampa Bay……N-F-C West leading Arizona lost its second straight game, 29-18 to Atlanta. In other play, it was Indianapolis 49 Washington 27……Jacksonville 25 N-Y Giants 24…..St. Louis 52 Oakland 0…..Buffalo 26 Cleveland 10…..Minnesota 31 Carolina 13 and Houston 45 Tennessee 21.

In the NBA, the Raptors lost in overtime to the Lakers 129-122 as Kobe Bryant led Los Angeles with 31 points. The Raptors still lead the East with a record of 13 and 4 but may have to do without DeMar DeRozan for some time after he suffers a groin tear. It’s not known when he’ll be back in the lineup.

The Mill Rats have indefinitely suspended Aquille Carr for what is termed “conduct detrimental to the team”. He has averaged 16 points a game.

In the Top of the Hill Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament, Avon View High won all their games, taking the final over Rothesay-Netherwood 72-38.

Both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams at U-N-B Saint John won their games over the weekend.
