No Future For “Future Shop” In Canada – Locations Closing Effective Immediately

65 Future Shop stores are undergoing a rebranding and will open on April 4th as Best Buy, including the East Saint John location.

Employees showed up to work this morning to find doors closed, and for many of them, their jobs terminated.

66 Future Shop locations are closing across Canada in an abrupt move by parent company Best Buy.

500 full time, and 1-thousand part time positions have been eliminated because of the changes, but not all stores will be gone.

All Future Shop gift cards, appointments, product orders and warranties will be accepted at Best Buy stores.

Since 2001, Best Buy had been operating Future Shop as a separate division after having shelled out 580 million dollars to buy the brand.

The changes are part of a plan by Best Buy to build a leading multi channel customer experience.
