Saturday Morning Sports For December 6th

Spencer Smallman’s goal four minutes into the second period turned out to be the winner as the Sea Dogs beat the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 5-1. The Teddy Bear toss is coming up tomorrow afternon during their game against Val D’Or. When the Sea Dogs score their first goal, have your teddy bears ready to toss onto the ice to support local charities and the Empty Stocking Fund.

The Sea Dogs also raising $3,370 for the Movember 2014 campaign to raise awareness of men’s health issues. It’s the second-highest amount raised by any team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the fourth-most in the Canadian Hockey League.

Sea Dogs goaltender Sebastien Auger is the Irving Oil Player of the Month. The 20 year old from Quebec City played nine games last month, posting a 5-4 record, a 2.50 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. Highlights included 32 saves in a 4-2 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes on November 21st, and a 2-1 shootout triumph against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on November 28th. He made 23 saves in regulation and had a perfect six-for-six performance in the penalty shot contest.

Defenceman Braydon Blight is the Swagelok Student of the Month. The 19 year old from St. Marys, Ontario being recognized as a student who wants to learn, works hard and is dedicated enough to make education a priority.

Ryobi Power Tools honouring Matthew Highmore as the Ryobi Hardest Working Forward of the Month and Olivier LeBlanc as the Ryobi Hardest Working Defenceman of the Month. In eleven games, Highmore has four goals and one assist for five points. LeBlanc had five assists and a plus 2 rating through eleven games in November.

In the NHL, a late third period goal with less than a minute left in regulation time by Brandon Saad giving Chicago a 4-3 win over Montreal……Anaheim gets by Minnesota 5-4 and Bryan Little scores three goals in Winnipeg’s 6-2 win over Colorado.

In the Maritime Junior A Hockey League, the St. Stephen County Aces lost to Miramichi 7-4.

In the NBA, LeBron James had 24 points and a season-best 13 assists while Kevin Love added 15 points and 13 rebounds as the Cleveland Cavaliers won their sixth straight game beating the East leading Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre, 105-91.
