Question period in the legislature today kicked off with some back and forth between Premier Brian Gallant and intermic PC leader Bruce Fitch over the price of oil, which, at $63/barrell, is currently at an all-time low.
Fitch is asked Premier Gallant how that dip is going to effect plans for the proposed west-east pipeline – and, whether it won’t encourage him to rethink his government’s proposed moratorium on shale gas development.
Gallant responded that we’ve seen market fluctuations like this before, and it wouldn’t make sense to make long-term decision based on the current conditions alone. Gallatn added the LNG conversion, lowering small business tax, youth employment fund, and other initiatives are all as important as fracking.
