Federal Funding Announced To Help Prevent Spring Flooding In NB First Nation Communities

A $1.7 million dollar investment is being made to help prevent flooding in eight New Brunswick First Nation communities.

The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Bernard Valcourt made the funding announcement yesterday.

Work is already underway to remove snow. It is being moved away from key infrastructure and homes to reduce the impact of the spring melt.

New Brunswick’s Emergency Measures Organization says the amount of snow on the ground poses a higher risk of flooding this year.

Removal is taking place in eight communities including the Elsipogtog and Tobique First Nations.
