No Political Will To Expand Regional Policing

The Fundy Regional Service Commission has no intention of even hearing a presentation on expanding regional policing. Quispamsis Town Council even took a separate vote on that.

Outgoing Police Chief Bill Reid, who will be retiring at the end of this month, says more regionalisation will only come about if the political decisionmakers really want to change the status quo and that isn’t the case right now. Reid still believes more regional policing in the Saint John region will come about eventually.

There had been talk about the possibility of City Police providing service to Blacks Harbour which had been looking at a cost alternative to the RCMP. Reid says there has to be some connectivity to the village in order for it not to be cost prohibitive.
