Monday Morning Sports For October 5th

In the Majors, the Blue Jays finished the regular season with a 12-1 loss to Tampa Bay which means Kansas City will have home field advantage for the American League playoffs. The Yankees lost to Baltimore but will still host the wildcard game against Houston tomorrow night with the winner facing the Royals. The Blue Jays will be taking on Texas in the first round of the playoffs.

In the National League, the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates meet for the wild card Wednesday night with the winner facing St. Louis. The Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the New York Mets in the playoffs.

In the NFL, the New York Jets improved to 3 and 1 with a 27-14 win over Miami…..Green Bay is now 4 and 0 after a 17-3 win over San Francisco…….Last night, Drew Brees hit C.J. Spiller with a short pass that the running back converted into an 80 yard touchdown on the second play of overtime to give New Orleans a 26-20 over the Dallas Cowboys. Elsewhere, it was Indianapolis 16 Jacksonville 13 (OT)…..Washington 23 Philadelphia 20…..Chicago 22 Oakland 20….New York Giants 24 Buffalo 10…..Cincinnati 36 kansas Cityh 21…..Carolina 37 Tampa Bay 23……Atlanta 48 Houston 21……San Diego 30 Cleveland 27……Denver 23 Minnesota 20 and St. Louis 24 Arizona 22.

In the Atlantic Football League over the weekend, the U-N-B Saint John Seawolves lost to Dal 36-9.

In Major Midget Hockey, the Saint John Vitos shut out Miramichi 5-0.

In the “Q”, Moncton lost to Shawinigan 5-3.

In rugby, the Saint John Labatt Trojans won the McNair Cup with a 52-5 win over the Fredericton Loyalists.
