It’s pretty cozy to sit with your feet up by a space heater on a snow day….but be careful.
Fire Marshal Douglas Browne says three fires over the Christmas break are suspected to have been caused by misuse of space heaters.
It’s risky to use space heaters too close to combustibles like bed linens, curtains and toys. Be sure to never leave them unattended, avoid keeping heaters on high or running them for long periods of time, and don’t use them with extension cords.
Space heaters cause about 50 fires every year in New Brunswick and more across the country.
