Common Council Approves Temporary Solution For Sand Cove Road

Common Council approving spending roughly $160,000 to install pore water pressure relief wells to help with the sloping on Sand Cove Road.

City Manager Jeff Trail says city staff need more time to evaluate more permanent options.

Trail says a long-term solution could be very expensive.

Potential long term solutions include re-routing the roadway away from the area of slippage and the construction of a breakwater to prevent the slope failure and erosion.

City staff will report back to council in four weeks time with a report of the evaluation of the two options.

Susan Fullerton was the only councillor to vote against the recommendation from city staff.

Fullerton says if we need to do something, we need to go do it without spending $160,000 to just “put it off”.

Councillor Bill Farren wishes a permanent solution could be found faster, but realizes the temporary fix is a good start to help out the situation on Sand Cove Road.
