The decision by the public library to locate in the Transit building on McDonald Street at Loch Lomand Road is going to save Saint John Transit a lot of property tax.
Public libraries don’t have to pay any property tax. As such, that means a reduction of more than $127 thousand in Saint John Transit’s property tax bill.
Meantime, Common Council has been told Transit is running a deficit with ridership slightly lower this year as compared to 2016 but significantly lower than 2015.
One reason cited for the decline in the number of riders is the fare increase that went into effect in April of 2015.
