A Gem In The South End

It was a hard slog but Tin Can Beach in the south end has been cleaned up and is now a place where you can commune with nature with lots of wildlife including wild ducks, geese, foxes and even hawks.

One of the volunteers, Barry Ogden says 16 tractor trailer loads of railway ties soaked with creosote were removed by CN last year then came all the steel and wooden posts dating back to the sugar refinery days.

There’s a school garden cleanup in the works in the south end at St. John the Baptist-King Edward School which is close by. Students plan to paint a wall mural of scenes from their neighbourhood. They will also plant vegetables to be used in the school’s lunch program.
