Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland says Canada can’t rely on the U.S. for protection or any other nation for that matter, saying it’s about us standing on our own two feet.
Her speech was viewed as a rebuke of President Donald Trump’s America First policy.
According to NATO, Canada spends just over 1 per cent of G-D-P on defence which is far short of the requested commitment of 2% and puts Canada near the bottom of the list of member countries.
