A Massive Volunteer Effort Keeps Kredl’s Dry For Now

The new owners of Kredl’s are learning about the kindness that exists in the town of Hampton.

Blair Hyslop tells CHSJ News as water levels began rising on Friday, they were concerned about losing the cookhouse.

They put out a call for help and lots of people showed to help build a three-foot sandbag wall.

“And then really we thought people would go home, ‘thank you very much’ and we gave them a little lunch,” Hyslop says

“but they stayed and they shovelled. Dan Coleman came with his tractor and his trucks and the volunteers began raking up the debris that was left behind from that”.

Hyslop points out that he and his wife Rosalyn are new to the community, having just purchased Kredl’s late last year.

“At one point I looked over and Dino from Pizza Delight and his staff carrying 20 pizzas and no one called him, he just came,” Hyslop says.

The sandbag wall is holding for now after 10 pumps got all the water out of the cookhouse.

Kredl’s is open and the market remains dry.
