Basketball fans in Saint John can soon check out their new team, the Saint John Riptide.
Coach and General Manager Rob Spon says he loves the team’s new identity.
Spon says his first thought is the Reversing Falls tides says that’s what Saint John is known for.
The Saint John Riptide open up their season today against the Island Storm in Charlottetown.
Spon says the new team name created a buzz around the city and attributes a lot of that excitement to the new ownership group.
He says he loves Saint John and calls it his second home.
The Riptide home opener is tomorrow night at 7 pm at Harbour Station against Charlottetown.
