A New Tool Help Sell Vacant Properties And Lots

A new online tool being offered by the City of Saint John aims to help sell stubborn properties in the South Central Peninsula.

Phil Ouellette is the Deputy Commissioner of Growth and Community Planning and he tells CHSJ News the idea for the vacant property match came from common council’s wish to prioritize growth.

There are 19 different profiles in the program right now and they are mixed between lots and properties and they have to through the vacant and dangerous buildings program or be monitored by the City. That that’s the eligibility to get into the program.” Ouellette says.

The lots and properties range from Waterloo and Middle streets in the Waterloo Village to Broad and St. James in the south end.

Katelyn Davis is a research and development coordinator in the planning department with the City of Saint John.

She tells CHSJ News once you are in, you can click on any of the properties and a tab will come up with a little bit of information about it.

“If you click more information, you can then see the property profile and that’s really the key piece here because that has details about the property including the lot area and zoning,” Davis says.

If it proves to be successful, Davis could see the program expanded to other neighbourhoods in the city like the old north end and the lower west side.
