A Peaceful Gathering Of Those For And Against Energy East

Groups for and against TransCanada’s Energy East pipeline peacefully gathering outside the National Energy Board hearings on day one.

Colin Sproul of the Bay of Fundy Inshore Fisherman’s Association says an oil spill is their worst fear but there’s more.

He says bitumen sinks and there is no method proposed for cleaning up that sunken oil from the Bay of Fundy in this extreme tidal environment.

Phil Hambrook of the Labourers International Union says they support Energy East so fewer New Brunswickers head out west for work.

He says they are there with their members and famillies to support this project and the jobs that are needed “big time” in New Brunswick.

While he understands the environmental concerns and people saying we need to do this for our grandchildren, Hambrook counters saying his grandchildren have to eat and have the same opportunites that he and his children have had.
