Before Kings Landing even opened for the 2025 season last May, a UK film crew quietly rolled into the historical village with two familiar faces: comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan. The pair were in New Brunswick filming a Winter Olympics Special for their hit show Rob & Romesh Vs—and needed a crash course in Canadian culture (and teamwork!) before facing Team Canada at the World Curling Championships.
Where better to whip them into shape than a 19th‑century village?
Enter the Villagers
Kings Landing is a living history museum; a representation of rural New Brunswick during the 19th and early 20th century. It is not a replica of an actual village, but a collection of salvaged or recreated 1820-1920s buildings from around the Mactaquac headpond and other locations around New Brunswick. They don’t normally open until May 31st, but Kings Landing staff rounded up the horses and villagers (super secretly!) and put together three period‑appropriate team challenges.
Let’s just say the villagers did not go easy on the Brits. From hands-on tasks to traditional skills, Rob and Romesh found themselves hilariously outmatched by folks who make 1800s life look effortless.
It was fast, fun, chaotic, and an absolute blast for everyone involved.
TV Magic in the Making
The shoot was a whirlwind—horse-drawn wagons rumbling past cameras, villagers bustling through scenes in full costume while staying in character, and two comedians trying very hard to keep up – and stay warm!
The episode aired on Sky Max and NOW in the UK earlier this month as part of the Rob & Romesh Vs Team GB: Winter Special, released January 2026.
