Quispamsis is looking to increase the fine for illegally parking in accessible parking spaces within the town.
Local resident Graham Foggo recently wrote a letter to council asking them to consider raising the fee, which is $25.
Foggo says as a person with disabilities, he believes the current fine is a “very small deterrent” and people will simply “take the chance”.
Mayor Gary Clark tells us he also believes the fine is too low and the town must do something about it.
“Certainly we’ll look at that and proceed forward and certainly support the resident in his letter in looking at this and increasing the fine,” says Clark.
Illegally parking in an accessible parking spot in Saint John will cost you $75, according to the city’s website, while the fine in Fredericton is $125.
Clark says the town solicitor will come back with some more information in the coming weeks.
