The New Brunswick Association of Private Colleges and Universities is advocating for the inclusion of all post secondary students in the new free tuition program.
Co-Chair Darcie Robichaud is the owner and President of Oulton College.
She says they have created a working group to meet with the Department of Post Secondary Education, Training and Labour.
“They’re going to work with us to evaluate why private institution students could not be included,” says Robichaud. “So we’ve been doing a lot of work and research on demographics, numbers, what the impact would be, what the cost would be.”
Robichaud says they are planning to have the meeting with PETL in the next week, but they don’t have a firm date set yet.
“And I feel confident that with all of that information on the table it will become clear that the about 1,000 students who would be eligible should be included,” says Robichaud.
She says they are aiming to have the policy modified before early June’s deadline for student loan applications.

“So it’s a tight deadline, we feel very strongly that we cannot miss the fall intake of students in this program,” says Robichaud. “The policies there, it’s a matter of looking at what it takes to include about 1,000 more students.”
The NBAPCU is the new name for the New Brunswick Association of Career Colleges.
The free tuition program, officially known as the Tuition Access Bursary program was announced in mid-April by the government.
