It was not that long ago that climate issues were the priority among communities across the world.
However, with the danger that COVID-19 poses to public events, environmental awareness is now being spread on a strictly virtual basis.
The In the RED ZONE conference features many presentations tailored towards youth engagement.
Teaching points include divestment, school gardens and project ideation. Organizer Samantha McWilliams says it’s important youth are serious about their future.
“Since it’s their future that will be impacted by climate change, we want them to know what could happen and the risks that are involved,” says McWilliams
Although online projects are the current focus, McWilliams believes that protests will be vital once they are deemed safe. She believes since the pandemic started the climate crisis “hasn’t seen much action.”
McWilliams, a student at Crandall University, says anyone interested in learning more about climate issues or intending to get involved can do so through the New Brunswick Environmental network.
