There was another feisty exchange in the legislature Friday over the issue of measles vaccinations in New Brunswick.
On Thursday, Health Minister Ted Flemming would not confirm how many vaccines were available, saying the province had more than enough to deal with the outbreak in the Saint John region.
Liberal MLA Jean-Claude D’Amours pushed the premier for an answer on Friday.
“The minister of health cannot count, can the premier confirm to this house that New Brunswick has received 15,000 shots and tell us why the minister of health did not provide this information,” said D’Amours.
Flemming countered by saying doctors have a lot better things to do than count little vials of vaccine.
“They’ll do it at noon and then they’ll vaccinate some people. At 3 o’clock, we’ll count them all over again, and then we’ll count at 5, 7, 9, 12 — it’s silly,” he said.
Flemming called the measles cluster an outbreak — not an epidemic.
