Another Nor’easter Makes Life Miserable

All schools in the Anglophone South School District have been closed for the day.

Classes at the community colleges in Saint John and Saint Andrews are cancelled for the day.

The U-N-B Saint John campus is closed until noonhour with the situation being reevaluated later this morning.

Saint John Transit has suspended all bus service until further notice with a reevaluation to be announced at noonhour.

There will be no solid waste pickup today. Pick up is now scheduled for Saturday and the city will have more details on that later.

If you decide to drive to work this morning, your commute could be downright dangerous because of the third storm to strike Saint John in the past week. Roberta Perkins of Environment Canada says you can expect up to 20 centimeters of snow before it winds up by late morning. After that, there will still be flurries for the remainder of the day.

Drivers will also have to contend with blowing snow as the winds will be gusting as high as 70 kilometers an hour.

No travel advisories have been issued for Highway 1 from St. Stephen to River Glade, Highway 7 from Saint John to the Petersville Hill, Highway 2 from Mill Cove to the Nova Scotia border and Highway 15. Strong winds are causing white out conditions and near zero visibility. The highway is snow covered and slippery. The Spruce Lake area has zero visibility with reports of vehicles off the highway in both directions. Abandoned and stuck vehicles are hampering the plows which are unable to get by in some cases.

Drivers who left their cars in the Parking Commission lots and the Peel Plaza garage because of the parking ban last night can stay until noonhour.

All City arenas are closed.

The St Patrick Street elevator service has been temporarily restored.

The Saint John Regional “Y” is closed……All of the Y’s child care and after school locations will remain closed as well.

All public libraries in the Fundy Region are closed.

Even the Poley Mountain ski hill is closed.
