Whether the new fracking commission, headed by the former Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench, Guy Richard, can even reach a definitive conclusion in a year’s time is being questioned by the New Brunswick Anti-Shale Gas Alliance. Jim Emberger of the Alliance says more and more new research is emerging about shale gas and it will all depend on who the commission talks to and who analyses the information.
He points out there is new research indicating medical problems with reproduction are higher in areas where shale gas exploration is taking place.
The inclusion of Cheryl Robertson as a Deputy Commissioner is being welcomed by Emberger because of her long time advocacy of the Cancer Society.
Whether he thinks the commission is being used to pave the way for shale gas development, Emberger points out often times politics trumps reality.
