Apartment Building Fire On Woodlawn Avenue Leaves Four People Homeless

Four people have been displaced after a fire at a two-unit apartment building on the east side which caused major damage.

Platoon Chief Steve Voutour tells us when firefighters arrived on the scene on Woodlawn Avenue they could see fire going up the exterior and it made its way through the eaves of the roof and into the attic space on the second floor. No one was hurt.

“When the first arriving crew did their primary search the occupant of the upper story or the second division of the building was exiting with his family pet at the time,” says Voutour, who notes that the pet was a dog.

The roof has severe damage, while the bottom unit of the building has suffered water and smoke and there is also heavy damage to the upper unit as well.

The fire investigator is trying to figure out what caused the blaze.

The Red Cross has been called in as well to help the residents.
