App update provides info on length of hospital visits

New Brunswickers will have a better idea of how long they can expect a hospital visit to take, thanks to a new feature on the MyHealthNB app.

People can now view the average length of stay in emergency departments around the province through the app, as well as the MyHealthNB website.

The data reflects the time from when a patient registers until they are discharged or admitted to another hospital unit.

“By making this type of data available, we’re helping New Brunswickers better understand how the health-care system works and what they can expect when they visit an emergency department,” said Health Minister John Dornan.

Dornan said the information is meant to give people a general idea of they may spend in an emergency department in non-urgent situations.

The information is updated every 15 minutes, but times are still estimates and can fluctuate depending on a variety of factors, such as patient volume and staffing at a location.
