Architecture Festival Comes To Saint John This Week

There’s no shortage of eye-catching architecture in uptown Saint John and architects from all over Canada will be able to soak it all in during a national festival this week.

The Festival of Architecture is happening here from Wednesday to Saturday.

The theme for this year’s event as we hear from Royal Architectural Institute of Canada president Michael Cox is Ports and Portals — Getting There From Here.

“Saint John has always been and continues to be a major port, which is also an entry-point to Canada,” says Cox.

“We like to think of the festival then as a portal to a larger understanding, an entry-point into the profession.”

The event includes keynote speakers, walking tours by locals and a museum exhibition opening of architectural drawings of Saint John and the region from 1822 to 1914.

The estimated economic impact of the event from Discover Saint John is $466,000.

These events are open to the public:

  • The Procurement Reform Plenary on Thursday, May 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • College of Fellows Convocation on Thursday, May 31 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • The Resilient Design Plenary on Saturday, June 2 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
