Arrest Made After West Side Break-In

Saint John police have made an arrest following a break-in and theft on the west side.

Police say were called to a home on Tower Street just after 9:10 a.m. Monday.

Just over an hour later, they received a report of a car prowler not far away on Charlotte Street West.

Officers found a man matching the suspect’s description on Watson Street less than five minutes later.

“When the officer approached, the suspect fled on foot and a brief foot chase ensued before the suspect was apprehended,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

“During a search, it was discovered that the accused was in possession of items stolen from the residence on Tower Street.”

A 31-year-old man has been charged with break and enter, obstructing a peace officer, and breaching a court order.

The man appeared in court on Tuesday. He was remanded into custody for a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday.
