Atlantic Ballet launches Indigenous dance program

Atlantic Ballet of Canada has launched a first-in-Canada program for emerging Indigenous dance artists in New Brunswick.

Ottawa and the Ulnooweg Indigenous Communities Foundation have announced $450,000 in funding for the ballet group.

The Indigenous-led program will help emerging Mi’kmaq and Wolastoq dancers build and pursue professional careers.

The two-year program will allow students to study professionally while continuing to live in their communities.

Eight Indigenous students will be accepted for the first cohort this fall.
