Atlantic Balloon Fiesta Cancelled Again

Hot air balloons will not be taking to the sky in the Sussex area this September.

The Atlantic Balloon Fiesta has been grounded again this year due to COVID-19.

It is the second straight year that organizers have been forced to cancel the event.

In a statement, the organizing committee said the decision was not made lightly.

“Safety of our pilots, our spectators, our vendors and our community has always [been] top priority for our festival and with the current and ever-changing COVID-19 situation it would be impossible to guarantee that for everyone,” read the statement.

Organizers said the committee has met several times over the past year and consulted with other stakeholders and various levels of government.

They hope to have the balloons return to the sky next September.
