Attempted murder charge laid in alleged Saint John assault

A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged assault in uptown Saint John.

Officers responded to a business in the 40 block of Waterloo Street just before 7:30 a.m. Monday.

A 73-year-old man was found unresponsive on the ground and treated for non-life-threatening injuries in the hospital.

Police arrested a 37-year-old man at the scene and he appeared in court on Monday.

He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, two counts of threats, and resisting arrest.

The man was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 6.
