Badminton is a big deal in Saint John with over 100 teams in town for the provincial championships.
Games are taking place with action starting at St. Malachy’s High School tonight and continuing at Bayside Middle and Simonds High all day tomorrow.
The finals are on Sunday at Bayside Middle school.
Diane MacLeod-Cyr of the Saint John Junior Badminton Club says the local club is full with 64 local kids involved and they have a waiting list.
Luke Couture is the fifth-ranked player in Canada and he came through the Saint John club and will be playing this weekend.
The provincial championships this weekend lead into the Atlantic championships in April and the National event in Moncton this May.
MacLeod-Cyr tells us it’s free admission and everyone is welcome to come by and check out the games.
