Baggage Fees Climb As Airline Ticket Prices Drop

The price of airline tickets may be going down according to Statistics Canada but add-on costs such as baggage fees keep on going up.

Most major airlines charge up to $30 for the first checked bag and there are weight restrictions too.

Lauren Reimer with Expedia.ca is suggesting a small investment to help relieve the added stress of air travel.

“I think a good investment is to buy a small luggage scale. The weight limit is about 23 kilograms per bag these days,” she says.

As much as we would like to bring everything we can when we travel, Reimer says remember that overweight fees are even costlier and in some cases as much as $90 per bag.
