Monday marks a significant milestone for the ferry service operating between Saint John, N.B., and Digby, N.S.
It was on this date 25 years ago that Bay Ferries’ inaugural sailing between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
The first sailing on April 4, 1997, came after Bay Ferries was awarded the route by the federal government.
MV Princess of Acadia initially sailed the route between the two Maritime provinces from its launch until 2015.
That is when the newer MV Fundy Rose took over the three-hour crossing, which operates year-round.
The current vessel can hold up to 745 passengers and the equivalent of 245 cars.
Bay Ferries says its operation continues a “proud tradition of service” across the Bay of Fundy that began in the 19th century with steamship service.
