Be Open When Speaking to Your Child About Drugs And Start Young

Officer Cory Jamieson of the Saint John Police admits he struggles with the idea of marijuana being legalized.

He says as a father, police officer and Canadian he expects we’ll have some challenges once it is legalized.

Jamieson says you should talk to your kids about drug use at the earliest age possible. He tells CHSJ news he talked to his son about drugs when he was five years old.

He says it’s about open communication and he’s trying to be a best friend to me. Jamieson says his son has never seen him drink alcohol adding he’s never smoked or done drugs so he practices what he preaches.

Roughly 32 percent of Saint John students in middle school to grade twelve have admitted using marijuana within the last year.

That’s higher than the Canadian average of 25-percent.
