“The Art Of Racing In The Rain” by Garth Stein has been chosen for this year’s Big Rothesay Read. The book made it onto the New York Times best seller’s list.
It’s described as a heart wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope.
The story is told from the perspective of Enzo, a dog with a nearly human soul, who on the eve of his death takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through. Inspiration for the book came from the Mongolian legend that a dog who is prepared, will be reincarnated in his next life as a human.
Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the prize-winning novel in July 2009 for Patrick Dempsey to star in but the film project was unable to find a director.
