A boil water advisory remains in effect for the Municipal District of St. Stephen, the community announced Monday.
The advisory was first issued late Wednesday after the municipality’s automated system indicated an “irregularity” in its water supply.
Officials said testing done at the water treatment plant and in the Milltown area shows the water quality continues to normalize.
“Unfortunately, levels have not yet recovered to the point to where Public Health will permit the removal of the Boil Water Advisory,” said Monday’s update.
In addition, there was an infrastructure failure on Monday morning at the main water well that serves the community.
According to the municipality, the failure has not yet impacted the progress made toward lifting the boil water advisory.
“Until the extent of the damage is fully known, the possibility exists that this damage, or the work necessary to repair it, could cause further Boil Water Advisories,” said the release.
In the meantime, all water destined for drinking, preparing infant formulas and juices, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking or dental hygiene should be held at a rolling boil for at least one minute.
Toddlers and infants should be sponge-bathed and caregivers need to ensure no bath water is swallowed.
