Bone Health and Fracture Prevention

Did you know a major reason we lose mobility and independence as we age is due to unhealthy bones breaking?

“The good news is, healthy bone and muscle age well,” says Dr. Jason MacDonald, the head of geriatric medicine at Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital. “The health of our bones and muscles is influenced more by lifestyle than by aging itself.”

Dr. MacDonald will address healthy habits to maintain and preserve strength, mobility, and balance as you age in an online talk, “Bone Health and Fracture Prevention,” on Friday, May 29 at 2 p.m.

Learn about the importance of resistance training, dietary protein, falls prevention strategies, medication safety, vitamin D, and hip fracture prevention. You will also hear about the benefits of having a robust social support network in place to ensure an optimal recovery should a fracture occur.
