Boxer Dropped From Roster Over Viral Video

East Coast Boxing in Quispamsis has dropped a boxer from its roster which represents Team New Brunswick.

In a statement, the club says the unnamed boxer appeared in a video with “inappropriate behaviour directed toward a reptile.”

“The club and our associated athletes are expected to uphold a standard of conduct while at the gym, competitions, or in daily life. ECB cannot accept the actions demonstrated in this video,” said Chris Peters, head coach of the boxing club.

Over the weekend, a viral social media video showed a group of young people pouring what looks like alcoholic beverages on a bearded dragon and stomping on the floor around the reptile.

It has since been shared online thousands of times.

“We are deeply disappointed in the behaviour exhibited by the individuals present in the video, whether they are connected to ECB or not,” said Peters.

The New Brunswick SPCA confirmed it is investigating an alleged case of animal abuse involving a bearded dragon in the Saint John area.

The society said it seized the reptile as part of its investigation and asked anyone with information to contact them.
