Budget Deliberations Continuing Around The Quispamsis Council Horseshoe

Quispamsis council burning the midnight oil with a lengthy discussion on the upcoming town budget.

However Mayor Murray Driscoll tells CHSJ News they’re at something of a standstill at the moment as they wait on the tax base and grant numbers from the province. He says the budget is in the process but it can’t be concluded until they get those numbers.

Staff is recommending council consider increasing the property tax rate to balance next year’s budget and build reserves.

Earlier this year council forming a committee to make their budgetary process more open and Driscoll says they’ve come up with a process that’s extremely transparent and he’s very pleased with it.

A series of budget meetings being held in the council chambers over the month of November with Driscoll saying they’ve already clocked more than 10 hours of public discussion.
