Building Owners Renovating In Old North End: ONE Change

The executive director of ONE Change says since the construction began on the new play park for children in the old north end, one of Saint John’s priority neighborhoods, he’s noticed a domino effect of people nearby working on their buildings.

Barry Galloway tells CHSJ News to a building adjacent to the park which he says was an eyesore for the neighborhood though they reached out to the building owner, and the building has since gotten new windows, is getting new siding and a renovation.

“When we started [the park] I talked to another guy and he said ‘oh, you’re doing some work, it’s time for me to fix up my place’ so he re-sided his house,” says Galloway.

“There’s actually about seven places that have started renovating their own properties because they’re seeing that the neighborhood is starting to create som momentum.”

Galloway says it’s about community coming together.
