Busy Weekend For Saint John Police

A man has been taken into custody after a disturbance in uptown Saint John over the weekend.

Police say an officer responding to Water Street early Sunday morning found a man chasing someone with a 12-inch fixed blade knife.

“The officer confronted the suspect and ordered him to drop the knife,” police said in a news release on Tuesday.

A 26-year-old man was arrested for assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released from custody on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.

Police said no physical injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Man Arrested For Impaired Driving

One person was arrested for impaired driving at a checkstop in Saint John on Friday evening.

Police were conducting an impaired driving road check as part of Canada Road Safety Week.

“A 30-year-old driver came through the check and failed a roadside screening device. A number of empty alcohol containers were located inside his vehicle,” police said in the release.

The man was charged with impaired driving and released to appear in provincial court at a later date.

Man Arrested For Mischief

A 33-year-old man who told police he wanted to go to jail was arrested for mischief on Saturday morning.

Police said a man approached officers claiming he damaged windows at the Saint John Law Courts, the Saint John Arts Centre, and a nearby restaurant.

“The accused claimed that he wanted to go to jail,” said the police news release.

The man was arrested for mischief charges and held in custody for a court appearance.

Motorcycle Stolen From East Side Business.

Police are looking for a motorcycle that was stolen from an east side business sometime over the weekend.

Officers responded to a break and enter at an outdoor sports recreational business on Loch Lomond Road on Monday afternoon.

Investigators say a new Kawasaki ZR900 motorcycle was stolen from the building. The incident remains under investigation.
