Byelections take place Monday in 3 N.B. ridings

Thousands of New Brunswickers are heading to the polls on Monday to cast their ballots.

Provincial byelections are taking place in Dieppe, Restigouche-Chaleur, and Bathurst East-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore.

Polls in the three provincial ridings will open at 10 a.m. Monday and will remain open until 8 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to bring their voter information card with them to speed up the process.

According to Elections NB, more than 5,200 people have already voted at advance polls or returning offices, accounting for 16 per cent of eligible voters.

A total of 11 candidates put their names forward for the three vacant legislature seats by the nomination deadline.

Currently, the Progressive Conservatives hold 29 seats in the legislature, the Liberals hold 13 seats, the Greens hold three seats, one seat is independent, and three seats are vacant.
