Canaport LNG Raises Concern Over Sharing Bay Of Fundy At NEB Hearing

Canaport LNG in Saint John raising concern on day two of the hearings into TransCanada’s Energy East pipeline over the sharing of the Bay of Fundy were the project to be approved.

Fraser Forsythe says they’re generally supportive of the project, but, want to fully understand the possible impacts this project could have on their own terminal.

“You can see that we’re in close promixity. This is the proposed marine terminal jetty…and this is the existing Canaport LNG jetty. We’re approximately 1 kilometre apart,” says Forsythe.

He says given that their ships will be approaching the jetty loaded, and the marine terminal vessels will be approaching the jetty unloaded they would be looking at the potential at the priority being given to LNG vessels in this berthing sequence.

“Alternatively we could look at the possibility of relocating the marine terminal jetty so that there was no overlap within the berthing channel as the vessels approach and depart,” says Forsythe.

Repsol, who owns the majority of Canaport LNG, also spoke as an intervenor on day two and expressed concern over extra tanker traffic near the LNG facility.
